Problem statement
Filtering lubricants, composed of a mix of various ingredients, presents unique challenges. In addition to solid particles, this mix also contains deformable particles. The goal is to effectively filter both solid and deformable particles. The difficulty with deformable particles is that they can slip through the filter even when they are larger than the specified micron rating, leading to their presence in the final product, which compromises quality. Initially, a standard meltblown filter was used, but this did not meet ISO 4406 requirements. The client had to perform multiple filter cycles to capture as many particles as possible.
Solution
The solution was found in the use of a BLK filter, a pleated polypropylene (PP) filter with multiple different filter layers. This filter effectively retains both solid and deformable particles, and the final product now meets all quality standards according to ISO 4406.
Benefits
- Multiple filter cycles on the same batch are no longer necessary, simplifying the process.
- The risk of rejected batches is significantly reduced.
- Production time is shortened, making the process more efficient.
- Significant cost savings are achieved.
With these improvements in the filtration process, companies can significantly enhance the quality and consistency of their lubricants, leading to better compliance with quality standards and a more efficient production process.
