Optimalisatie van zetmeelverwerking in de snoepindustrie

In the confectionery industry, starch is frequently used as a molding material for shaping various types of candies, such as gummy and gelatin sweets. The starch forms a negative mold into which the liquid candy mixture is poured to set. After use, the starch is recovered, cleaned, and reused in the production process. However, this reuse is not without challenges, as the starch often becomes contaminated with candy residues, metals, and other unwanted particles. Effectively cleaning this starch is essential to prevent waste, increase efficiency, and meet stringent hygiene and safety standards, especially in an ATEX environment where dust explosions pose a risk.

The challenge

Our client, active in the confectionery industry, faced significant issues with their starch processing. After use, the starch was often contaminated with candy residues and metal particles, leading to waste, increased production costs, and inefficiencies in the production process.

Existing solutions, such as centrifuge shifters, no longer met the client's requirements. These shifters frequently broke, particularly due to the nylon mesh fracturing, resulting in frequent production downtimes and high maintenance costs, along with the disposal of starch. The client was seeking a more robust and reliable solution to effectively remove contaminants without these issues.

The solution

Thanks to the collaboration with Van Borselen Filters, Client X now has a robust and efficient solution for their starch processing. The delivered 60-inch Low Profile screening machine, equipped with stainless steel magnetically detectable mesh, has not only increased productivity by minimizing downtimes and maintenance but has also improved product quality by effectively removing contaminants. Furthermore, the customized machine meets stringent ATEX safety standards, significantly reducing the risk of dust explosions.
