Strainers

We supply Y-strainers

For many years, Van Borselen Filters has supplied a wide range of strainers. Strainers are ideal for applications where the degree of contamination in the liquid stream is relatively low or for protecting pumps. The strainer range of Van Borselen consists of: T-strainer, Y-strainer, basket strainers, point strainers, simplex strainer, duplex strainer, temporary strainers, and more.

A basket strainer is a strainer that uses a sieve basket. The baskets are usually made of perforated plate and can be covered with a filter gauze to a fineness of 25 microns if desired. Basket strainers are available in different materials, pressure classes, and connections to the inlet and outlet.

Simplex strainer

A simplex strainer can be mounted directly between the piping and has a strainer basket in the filter housing. Simplex strainers are available in many different fineness ratings, materials, pressure classes, and sizes.

T-strainer

A T-strainer is a strainer that is made in a "T" shape. The baskets are usually made of perforated plate and can be covered with a filter gauze to a fineness of 25 microns if desired. T-strainers are available in many different sizes, pressure ratings, and materials.

Duplex strainer

Duplex strainers have two sieve baskets that can be used independently of each other. Duplex strainers are available in many different materials, pressure classes, connections, and basket fineness.

Strainers

There are different types of strainers, but when do you need which type? Below you will find more information about each type of strainer.

Y-strainer:

Y-strainers are used to remove unwanted solid particles from a liquid or gas stream. The name Y-filter strainer speaks for itself; this filter housing is shaped like the letter 'Y' and contains an insert sieve. The sieve is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the flow of liquid or gas that needs to be filtered. This shape is ideal for pipelines where space is limited. Due to its compact design, the Y-strainer can be mounted both horizontally and vertically. The sieve is made of perforated plate and can be coated with a mesh of 5 microns if desired. A Y-strainer uses an insert sieve to remove these unwanted solid particles. A Y-strainer is ideal for protecting your pump or other equipment or for removing particles from liquid or gas streams. Using a Y-strainer is a very cost-effective solution for liquid or gas stream filtration. Because a Y-strainer can be made in many different finenesses, sizes, materials (including stainless steel), and with different connections, a solution can be found for almost every application. This makes Y-type strainers a very good choice for use in, among others, the food industry and the chemical industry.

We have two types of strainers: the Y-strainer (threaded connection) and the Y-Strainer (Flange). The decision between these options depends on various factors, including the system's pressure rating. T-strainer:

A T-strainer is a widely used filter in industrial and commercial applications, designed to remove dirt and contaminants from liquids and gases. It consists of a T-shaped housing connected to the pipeline via its connections at the inlet and outlet. Due to its shape, the filter element is perpendicular to the liquid or gas flow. T-strainers are known for their simple design, ease of use, and versatility in various environments. Because the filter element of a T-strainer is easier to access, maintaining and cleaning the filter is easier than with Y-strainers.

Basket strainer:

A basket strainer is a strainer that uses a sieve basket in the shape of a basket. The basket hangs straight in its housing with a lid on top that can be opened by loosening the nuts. The basket is usually made of perforated plate and can be coated with filter mesh up to a fineness of 5 microns if desired. A basket strainer can be mounted directly between the pipework and, as mentioned earlier, contains a sieve basket in the filter housing. Basket strainers can be used for a wide range of applications and function both as a vacuum filter to protect pumps or for removing unwanted particles from a liquid or gas stream. Basket strainers can be applied in various sectors and are therefore one of the most used strainers. Basket strainers are available with both single and double filter baskets. Double basket strainers are also known as duplex basket strainers. A basket strainer distinguishes itself from a simplex strainer by the fact that a basket strainer contains a larger basket-shaped filter. Basket strainers are therefore suitable for larger flows and larger amounts of pollution.

Duplex strainer:

Duplex strainers consist of two filter strainers connected together. They are designed for applications where the flow cannot be interrupted for basket cleaning or clogging. These filter strainers are often applied in processes with continuous production. This system has two separate basket housings and a valve handle between the two baskets to direct the flow to one strainer while the other is being cleaned. This ensures maximum efficiency, as the system remains 100% operational with no downtime. Duplex strainers are available in various materials, including stainless steel and brass. The sieve can be easily cleaned because there is a lid above the sieve that can be easily opened.

Simplex strainer:

Simplex strainers are a single filter housing with a sieve, similar to a basket strainer. They are used to remove foreign solid particles from pipelines. They provide inexpensive protection for pumps, valves, and other components in the system. However, when they become clogged or need cleaning, the system must be shut down. With simplex strainers, the full basket must be replaced with an empty one before the flow can be resumed. The basket can be easily accessed through the lid above the sieve. The differences between simplex and duplex liquid strainers are not only in their design but also in the sectors and applications where they are most useful because continuous production is not possible. The difference with the basket strainer is the cylindrical basket, which is more compact and therefore has less flow and dirt-holding capacity.

Cone strainer (temporary strainer):

Cone strainers (temporary strainers) are designed for use in temporary processes where they are used for a short period. These strainers are ideal for situations such as the commissioning or startup phase of a new process, where they remove large debris from the liquid stream. Temporary filter strainers are easy to install and remove between two flanges in your pipeline.
